Three ways your folk can check themselves in

By causefolk · Oct 15, 2026

Attendance is where good records go to die. Someone meant to take the list, the list was on the other clipboard, and three weeks later nobody can say who came. Causefolk gives your folk three ways to check themselves in, and gives you the record either way.

The QR poster

Every cause has a printable poster with a QR code. Tape it to the door. A person scans it with their phone, types the email they signed up with, sees their shift and taps “I’m here.” Attendance is recorded with the time and the method.

The daily code

Someone without a camera, or a shift without a door, can show the code card from their portal: six characters that change every day. You scan it from the roster, or type it. Same record, same hours.

The geofence

Set a check-in location on the cause and a radius. From one hour before the shift, a person inside that radius can tap “I’m here” on their portal, and their phone’s location is compared once and forgotten. Causefolk never stores where anyone was.

Staff keep every control

The roster still lets you mark, change and clear attendance from an hour before the shift, and a staff mark is never overwritten by a self check-in. Each mark shows how it was made: by you, by poster, by scan or by location. Hours default to the shift length and can be adjusted per person.

Turn it off if you want

Self check-in is a switch under Settings. Off, the poster says the link is not active, the “I’m here” button is hidden, and the code card and your scanner still work.

Why bother

Because the hours you cannot prove did not happen, as far as your funders are concerned. Check-in makes the proof a side effect of showing up.
